Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 3 sent a telegram to Chinese Premier Li Qiang showing his sympathy over serious human and asset losses caused by a landslide in Meizhou, Guangdong province.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son cabled a a similar message to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. Read full story

- Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 3 for a delegation from the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), the ruling Party of Ivory Coast.

- Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception for his Peruvian counterpart Javier Gonzalez Olaechea in Paris on May 2 on the sidelines of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s Ministerial Council Meeting.

Son affirmed that Vietnam treasures its ties with Peru, and hailed the positive development in the bilateral relations in recent time, with two-way trade increasing continuously, making Peru one of the five leading economic partners of Vietnam in the region. Read full story

- The Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House and the family of late General Vo Nguyen Giap held a ceremony on May 3 to introduce the 9th edition of the book “Dien Bien Phu” written by the General.

The reprint of the book aimed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory and the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army. Read full story

- The Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) will showcase its high-tech defence industry products at the 2024 Defence Service Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA) and the National Security Asia 2024 (NATSEC) exhibition in Malaysia from May 6-9.

Viettel High Tech, a subsidiary of the Viettel Group, will represent Viettel at one of the world's top 5 defence and security exhibitions. In its 18-year history, the 2024 event is considered to have the largest scale, with the participation of over 1,200 enterprises from 60 countries and territories. Nearly 400 delegations from 45 countries, and 50,000 visitors are also expected to attend. Read full story

- The Republic of Korea (RoK), China and Japan agreed on May 3 to reinforce the regional financial safety net, along with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), by launching a new financing facility programme meant to extend greater support in case of a financial crisis.

According to the RoK’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, the agreement was made during a trilateral meeting of Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki and Chinese Finance Minister Liu Kun held during their meeting in Tbilisi, Georgia. Read full story

- A 6-magnitude earthquake jolted the central island province of Leyte, the Philippines at 10:16 GMT on May 3, the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences said. The epicentre was at a depth of 10 km.
