Hanoi (VNA) – The Lao National Assembly sought closer links in many fields with its Vietnamese counterpart, Lao National Assembly Vice Chairman Somphan Phengkhammy has remarked.
During talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Uong Chu Luu in Hanoi on August 15, the visiting Lao legislator said his country wishes to learn about the organisational structure and activities of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Committee for Deputy Affairs, and all-level People’s Councils, especially those at provincial level.
The guest congratulated Vietnam on the success of the election of deputies to the 14 th NA and the People’s Council at all levels in 2016-2021, and productive results in the first session of the 14th NA.
He said he believes that Vietnam will make stronger development in the future, thus promoting the relations between the two countries.
He affirmed that Laos will work closely with Vietnam in organising events to celebrate the 55 th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40 years of the signing of the Amity and Cooperation Treaty between the two nations.
For his part, NA Vice Chairman Luu spoke highly of Laos’s recent legislative achievements, including the ratification of the Revised Constitution, saying that these contribute to reinforcing the country’s legal system and laying foundation for Laos to realise its socio-economic development goals.
He expressed his belief that the Lao NA will continue making important contributions to successfully implementing the Resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the country’s socio-economic development plan in 2016-2020.
The host congratulated Laos’s successful organisation of the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and relevant meetings in Vientiane and its good performance of the 2016 ASEAN Chairmanship, which help the country improve its position in the region and international arena.
He hoped Somphan Phengkhammy’s visit will help further strengthen special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and States.
During their talks, the two legislators exchanged views on issues of shared concerns.-VNA
