Vietnam leads Asian hotel growth list

Vietnam takes the lead in the growth of the Asian hotel sector with a forecast annual rate of 15 per cent for the 2012-16 period, according to the World Travel Market's Global Trend Report 2012 in association with Euromonitor International.

Vietnam was followedby the Republic of Korea, India, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Chinaand the Philippines, the report said.

The hotelsector of Asia was expected to record strong growth with a compoundannual rate of 7 percent thanks to increases in international anddomestic visitors.

Notably, Asia had high potentialfor luxury entrants, according to the report, which points out thatTonino Lamborghini planned to open 40 additional five-star hotels inAsia, with the first nine opening in China.

Thereport also said that up-market car brands may successfully make inroadsinto the hotel sector, such as Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley andJaguar, together with several fashion brands.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism'sstatistics, there were more than 5.3 million international visitors toVietnam in the first 10 months of this year, an increase of 11.2percent over the same period last year.

As ofSeptember 2011, there were 12,500 hotels of all kinds with about 250,000rooms, 53 of which were of five-star standard, 127 four-star and 271three-star.-VNA

HCM City to use municipal budget for Metro Line No. 2 project

The Metro Line No. 2 project has an estimated investment of nearly 47.9 trillion VND (2 billion USD) and has nearly completed land clearance, at 99.8%. The NA’s Resolution 188 authorises HCM City to develop seven metro lines spanning 355 kilometres over the next decade, with preliminary total investment for the 2025-2035 phase estimated at 40.2 billion USD.
