Vietnam’s specialties like Pho and Banh mi, which are well-known all over the world, are easily found in Hanoi. After 4 years living in Ho Chi Minh City, Kenichi Yamanobe from Japan said, “I feel Vietnam is like my second home. The Vietnamese are so friendly, and their close relations and behavior make me feel warm-hearted. In addition, they always welcome foreigners with all their pride and hospitality, introducing Vietnamese foods, and symbolic destinations, among other things.”
He also shared his experience on a volunteer trip to the northern province of Ha Giang. He said experiencing local culture by himself through volunteer work was one of the most meaningful ways to travel. During the trip, volunteers had the chance to enjoy gorgeous nature, special local food and experience the daily lives of local people. He hoped to gain more finances to come back to Vietnam with new projects.
A group of American tourists chose a different way to explore Vietnam through participating in agricultural tourism in Ninh Binh province. During the trip, they enjoyed riding water buffalos, planting rice, catching fish and crabs. They shared that this was their first time experiencing such an interesting kind of eco-tourism. Through the experience, they learned more about the work relating to water-rice culture.
After the trip, foreign tourists often say they feel nostalgic as they depart Vietnam. For them, ending this journey means they wish to return in the future.
