Hanoi (VNA) - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC) Uong Chu Luu has stressed the need to enhance friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese people and peace organisations around the world, especially those in America and Africa.
Speaking at a conference in Hanoi on July 10 to review the committee’s work in the first half of 2018 and outline tasks for the remaining months of the year, Luu highly valued the sense of responsibility and democracy, and honest opinions of delegates at the event.
He expressed his support for and applauded the VPC’s chapters in Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi for their efforts in organising events such as art performances, forums, workshops, and charitable activities in order to promote peace as a significant value in Vietnam and other countries.
Dong Huy Cuong, Secretary General of the VPC, said the committee focused on fulfilling the first draft of the book “Vietnam: Aspiration for Peace” and joined a number of international workshops on peace and security, which actively contributed to protecting national interests and Vietnam’s image, and further promoted friendship and solidarity with people in foreign countries.
VPC’s chapters in all localities have proactively participated in friendship peace activities of the committee and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), contributing to localities’ people-to-people diplomacy and fostering the friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese people and international friends.
Discussing tasks for the remaining months of 2018, participants stressed the focus of completing the compilation and publication of the “Vietnam: Aspiration for Peace” book, and organising the Congress of the VPC for the 2018-2023 tenure.
The committee will coordinate with its local chapters to organise activities to mark the Day of Invalids and Martyrs (July 27) and the International Day of Peace (September 21) and other activities.
Regarding the completion of the book, Luu asked relevant agencies to fulfil this work before the congress.-VNA
