Hanoi (VNA) – Despite scoring first, Vietnam lost 1-3 to the hosts Oman in a match held on October 12 during the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Forward Nguyen Tien Linh gave Vietnam the lead in the 39th minute, following an attempt by defender Ho Tan Tai. The goal was allowed after video assistant referee (VAR) check.

However, Issam Al Sabhi equalised for Oman shortly before half time.

Oman scored two others in the second half, with one of them being a penalty goal in the 63rd minute.

Vietnam have yet to collect any points after four matches and are at the bottom of Group B of the final qualifying round, which they played for the first time ever.

Vietnam are of the same group with Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, China and Oman./.
