Speaking at the event, head of the Vietnamese mission inGeneva, Ambassador Duong Chi Dung said the Vietnamese economy grew by 6.8percent last year with foreign reserve nearing 60 billion USD and export-importhitting all-high 425 billion USD, 36 billion USD of which was from farm produceexport.
Vietnam’s role on the international arena has increasinglyimproved, highlighted by the success of the APEC Year 2017, he said.
The ambassador attributed the growth to contributions ofVietnamese nationals abroad, especially in investment and manufacturing.
According to him, the Vietnamese mission in Geneva and theVietnamese Embassy in Berne held two gatherings with Vietnamese intellectualsliving and working in Switzerland last year. They planned to establish theAssociation of Vietnamese Scientists and Economists in Switzerland.
The number of Vietnamese experts working in Geneva-based internationalorganisations keeps increasing, contributing to strengthening ties betweenVietnam and international organisations.
He wished that overseas Vietnamese in Switzerland would stayunited to make practical and active contributions to sustainable nationaldevelopment.
