Vietnam needs the World Bank (WB)’s assistance to its three programmes on sea and river dykes and anti-flooding, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung.
Deputy PM Hung made the statement while receiving WB General Director Juan Jose Daboub in Nha Trang City in the south coast province of Khanh Hoa on April 8.
The Deputy PM thanked the WB for its assistance over the past years and stressed that WB has provided financial consultation, supervision and assistance to Vietnam and sent experienced experts to help the nation ranging from macro economic restructuring to equitisation and building the laws on banking and credits organisation.
With WB’s help Vietnam has been able to invest in poverty reduction, health care and education, resulting in high growth and better living standards for the people, he added.
The deputy PM said the nation is restructuring its macro-economy and it plans to consult financial and monetary organisations to build an economic development plan for the next five years in preparation for the XIth National Party Congress.
Vietnam now has more than 500,000 businesses and will have more than 1 million businesses to generate more jobs for workers, especially in rural areas, said Hung.
