Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted a reception in Hanoion April 11 for Regional Representative for Asia - Pacific of the InternationalOrganisation of La Francophonie (OIF) Edgar Doerig who came to present his credentials.

Viet expressed hisbelief that in the new position, Doerig will make further contributions to finecooperation between Vietnam as well as French-speaking countries in the region and the OIF.

The VietnameseMinistry of Foreign Affairs is committed to providing allpossible support within its ability for the OIF’s activities, he said.

Speakinghighly of the OIF’s role and important contributions to enhancing cooperationand solidarity among the people and governments of French-speaking countriesaround the world, Viet affirmed that Vietnam always highly evaluates cooperation with the OIFwhile actively, proactively and responsibly engaging in its activities.

Healso thanked the OIF Regional Office for Asia-Pacific in Hanoi for itseffective cooperation and coordination over the past years.

Onthe occasion, Viet suggested the OIF increase its support for French language teaching in Vietnam, including training in French for Vietnamese military and public security forces who join in United Nationspeacekeeping missions. He proposed increasing cultural exchanges and economiccooperation between Vietnamese and Francophone partners, especially inAfrica, including through tripartite cooperation model in agriculture.

TheDeputy Minister also suggested the OIF support efforts to maintain peace,stability, safety, and security of navigation in the East Sea.

Doerig, for hispart, thanked the Vietnamese Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministriesand agencies for actively partnering with the OIF.

He took note ofVietnam’s priorities and informed the Office’s activities in the near future.

The official vowed towork closely with the Vietnamese side to launch Vietnam's cooperation priorities, including teaching French language, training in French, promotingcultural, economic and investment cooperation with Francophone partners.

Regarding the EastSea issue, he affirmed that the OIF strongly supports the serious observance of international law and the 1982 United NationsConvention on the Law of the Sea.

Bothsides pledged to closely cooperate and coordinate together to achieve set targets and fully tapcooperation potential in the future./.

Vietnam, Cambodia seek to boost friendship, all-around cooperation

In a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on February 19 afternoon, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu suggested directions to further strengthen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries; enhance political trust; expand investment, trade, and tourism activities; and strengthen economic connectivity towards raising bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD.

Vietnam, Cuba discuss measures to further beef up bilateral cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the fruitful development of the Vietnam – Cuba relations in all Party, State, and people-to-people diplomacy channels, reaffirming that the Party and State of Vietnam attach importance to the special relationship with Cuba, the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam.

Prime Minister proposes stronger cooperation with Cambodia in various fields

NA’s 9th extraordinary session wraps up

Speaking at the closing ceremony, NA Chairman Man stated that the session, which lasted six and a half days, adopted multiple laws and resolutions aimed at reorganising the state apparatus and accelerating socio-economic development.

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. The GDP per capita is projected to surpass 5,000 USD, and the average consumer price index (CPI) growth rate is targeted to be around 4.5 - 5%.

NA greenlights investment policy of Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong rail project

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.

NA deputies to approve several resolutions, laws on February 19

The deputies will pass a resolution addressing issues related to the streamlining of the political system’s organisational apparatus, a resolution on supplementation to the 2025 socio-economic development plan with a growth target of at least 8%, and another on pilot policies to remove barriers in science-technology research and innovation activities.
