Vietnam, Okinawa boost friendly ties

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong took part in activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Okinawa – Vietnam Friendship Association, in Japan on August 10.

On the occasion, Hong presented VUFO’s “For Peace and Friendship Among Nations” insignias and certificates of merit to the Okinawa – Vietnam Friendship Association and its members.

He shared information on Vietnam’s economic policies and socio-economic development with Okinawa people and authorities.

At working sessions with the VUFO officials, the Okinawa authorities affirmed that Okinawa prefecture would promote multifaceted cooperation with Vietnamese localities in the future.

Since its establishment, the Okinawa – Vietnam Friendship Association has hosted many practical activities, promoting understanding, friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese and Japanese people, and between the Vietnamese and Okinawa people in particular.

In the near future, the association will focus on promoting cultural exchanges, education and economic development between the two sides, as well as joining efforts with people around the world to fight for justice for Agent Orange/dioxin victims in Vietnam./.
