Vietnam, Pakistan celebrate 50-year ties

Hanoi (VNA) – A get-together was held in Hanoion December 14 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Pakistandiplomatic relations (November 18, 1972-2022).

Addressing the event, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga,President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), said that overthe past 50 years, Pakistan has always been a close friend and a trustworthypartner of Vietnam.

Nga highlighted the fruitful cooperation between the twocountries in all fields, with two-way trade reaching a record of 794 millionUSD in 2021. Positive results have also been seen in the fields of culture,science-technology, and security-defence, she said, adding that the two sideshave supported each other at international forums, especially the UN SecurityCouncil.

She also expressed her belief that the Vietnam-Pakistanfriendship and cooperation will further grow with greater achievements, meetingthe aspirations of both peoples.

For his part, Pakistani Ambassador to Vietnam Samina Mehtabheld that the celebration of the anniversary is a good chance for the two sides to further promote their solidarity andfriendship.

She noted that the Pakistani Embassy in Vietnam recentlycoordinated with the Vietnam Institute of Indian and Southwest Asian Studies(VIISAS) to organise an international conference on the Vietnam-Pakistan 50-yearties, during which participants discussed measures to promote bilateralrelations.

The diplomat said that the two countries have establishedbilateral cooperation mechanisms such as political consultations, Ministerial-LevelJoint Committee and Trade Cooperation Committee. The two sides have also formeda friendship parliamentarians’ group, she noted.

She said she believes that in the future, the Vietnam-Pakistan relations willbecome stronger with deeper mutual understanding and closer cooperation./.

According to the provincial Election Committee, three polling stations in Truong Son commune – located in Hoi Ray, Nuoc Dang and Doc May villages – will organise voting on March 8, seven days before the nationwide election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, to make it easier for residents in remote areas where travel remains difficult to cast their ballots.

PM proposes “Talented, creative and dedicated women” award

This year’s award went to a group of female scientists from Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their research cluster on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. The individual award was presented to Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga, Director of the Vietnam–Japan Institute of Advanced Technology and senior lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, for research linked to environmental protection, energy security and climate change adaptation.

Vietnam co-chairs 5th ASEAN–UK joint cooperation committee meeting
