Vietnam prepares for UN anti-corruption convention review

Vietnamis to review its performance during the second cycle (2015-2019) thatcovers chapter II on preventive measures and chapter V on assetrecovery.

In addition, the country has also been selected tojoin the review of UNCAC implementation in China and Congo nextyear.

Vietnam joined the convention in 2009 and hasactively exercised its rights as a State party to the Convention,delegates at the seminar heard. The country fulfilled its duties in thefirst review cycle that focuses on chapter II on criminalisation and lawenforcement and chapter IV on international cooperation, both as areviewed country and a member of the reviewing group.

Theassessment is that Vietnam’s legal system generally meets UNCACrequirements. However, its ranking in the 2013 corruption perceptionsindex remains modest, coming in seventh among the Southeast Asiannations in the ranking compiled by the Germany-based TransparencyInternational.-VNA

Memorial service held for 731 fallen soldiers in Ho Chi Minh City

From June 23 to October 5, Team K74 and other forces recovered 731 sets of martyrs’ remains from the park. Biological samples and DNA samples collected from relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers are being analysed and stored in the national gene bank to support identification efforts.

Russia waives visa requirements for Vietnamese tourists

Saigon River pedestrian bridge set to be joined on October 21

The assembly comprises a main bridge structure weighing about 1,400 tonnes and a specialised steel supporting frame weighing around 2,000 tonnes. During testing, about 30 self-propelled modular transporters were used to lift the assembly 40cm off the ground for technical inspections. Sensors and monitoring equipment recorded key parameters.

Hanoi breaks ground on 299-hectare safari park

Its key features will include animal habitats modelled on natural ecosystems, veterinary and research facilities, educational exhibitions and recreational areas. Green spaces and water bodies will cover about 81.8% of the site, providing ecological corridors and suitable habitats for wildlife.
