Buenos Aires (VNA) - Representatives from the Trade Office of the Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina had a working session with leaders of the Coto Group to explore opportunities for Vietnamese products to penetrate into the South America country’s leading super-market chain.

Pham Hong Trang, head of the office, said Coto products diversifies from household appliances to handicrafts. This is seen as a golden opportunity for Vietnamese goods to enter the Argentinean market with a population of more than 42 million.

Once Vietnamese products are sold in Coto markets, it will help increase two-way trade, she said.

Meanwhile, President of Coto Group Alfredo Coto said he wanted Vietnamese products’ presence in his supermarkets’ shelves.

Coto is interested in such imports as household appliances, electronic products, handicrafts, wood furniture and coffee, he added.

Coto is a chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets, which was established in Argentina in 1987. After three decades, it is now one of the leading retailers in Argentina with over 120 operating branches and 20 others being built nationwide.

To date, the group enjoyed a 30.1 percent retail market share in Buenos Aires and 18.3 percent in the whole country.

Vietnam-Argentina two-way trade has increased recently, with figure for 2017 expected to stand at 3.5 billion USD.

A line-up of promotion activities will be held in Argentina in July by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote Vietnamese products to Argentinian consumers.

Opportunities are also available for Vietnamese products to reach consumers in Argentina’s neighbours such as Uruguay and Paraguay as Argentina is currently a member of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).

In addition, a line-up of cooperation mechanisms have been set up between Vietnam and Argentina, which facilitate business and investment activities between the two sides.-VNA
