A working session between the Vietnamese delegation and officials of the National Police Agency of Japan (Photo: VNA) Tokyo (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Public SecurityNguyen Van Thanh has proposed Vietnam and Japan build an agreement on crimefight during his discussions with Japan’s police agencies as part of his visitto Japan from June 5 to 12.
Thanh and a delegation of the VietnameseMinistry of Public Security had working sessions with the National PoliceAgency of Japan, the Ministry of Justice of Japan, the Osaka Prefectural Policeand the Hyogo Prefectural Police.
At the sessions, Deputy Minister Thanh said thegrowth of Vietnam-Japan relations in various spheres provides a foundation forfruitful cooperation between his ministry and relevant agencies of Japan.
The two sides have been effectively sharingexperience and cooperating in scientific and technical areas serving crime combatand prevention. They have been working together to prevent and fighttransnational crime, drug crime, hi-tech crime and terrorism in theirrespective nations and in the region.
Thanh particularly noted that the establishmentof a Vietnam-Japan security dialogue at the deputy ministerial level has helpedintensify the two countries’ extensive strategic partnership for peace andprosperity in Asia.
Pointing to the fact that the numbers of Vietnameseand Japanese citizens visiting and working in each other’s countries haveincreased over the past years, the deputy minister asked authorised agencies ofJapan to increase information exchange and coordination in crime fight whileassisting Vietnam’s interns and students to settle down and integrate into thelocal society.
The number of Vietnamese people living in Japanhas approximated 200,000, up 36 percent from the same period of 2015, most ofwhom are trainees, interns and students.
Deputy Minister Thanh expressed his hope thatthe two sides will promote cooperation mechanisms on security,counter-terrorism and cyber security in an effective manner, helping ensure securityfor big events in the two countries, including the APEC Economic Leaders’Meeting in Vietnam’s Da Nang this year and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
He also urged the two sides to accelerate negotiationson agreements on mutual judicial assistance in criminal matters and thetransfer of convicted persons.-VNA
