Vietnam records 1,831 new COVID-19 cases on May 18

There were 1,831 COVID-19 infections registered across Vietnam on May 18, an increase of 45 new cases compared to the number reported on the previous day.

Hanoi (VNA) - There were 1,831 COVID-19 infections registered acrossVietnam on May 18, an increase of 45 new cases compared to the numberreported on the previous day. 

Thenew transmissions were detected in 48 cities and provinces, bringing thecountry's tally to 10,701,796.

Thecapital city  of Hanoi stilltopped the country in terms of new daily infections, with 403patients. 

Itwas followed by northern Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces, with 139 and 125 cases.

Therewas one COVID-19 related death reported in on the day, bringing the country’sCOVID-19 death toll to 43,072, accounting for 0.4 percent of total cases.

Atotal of 8,437 patients were given the all-clear, taking the total number ofrecoveries to 9,373,294 since the pandemic began. 

About217.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the countryto date, of which approximately 2.8 million have been given to children aged 5to 11./.

Vietnam moves toward universal free annual health checkups from 2026

Every Vietnamese citizen from 2026 onward will be entitled to at least one free annual medical checkup or screening. Each individual will also have a digital health record integrated into the national digital identification platform VNeID, enabling authorities and healthcare providers to manage health data in a synchronised and continuous manner.

Ho Chi Minh City rolls out electronic health records on digital citizen app

Under the plan, each resident will be assigned a unique EHR linked to their personal identification number, ensuring accuracy and consistency while minimising duplication and data discrepancies. Health data will be continuously updated from medical facilities, routine check-ups, and screening programmes, then integrated and centrally displayed on the application.
