Vietnam, San Marino ministries reach agreement on political consultations

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications of San Marino have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancing political consultations.

Rome (VNA) – The Vietnamese Ministry ofForeign Affairs and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, International EconomicCooperation and Telecommunications of San Marino have signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) on enhancing political consultations.

The document was inked by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and San Marino Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications Lucca Beccari at the headquarters ofthe San Marino Embassy in Rome, Italy, on March 29.

Both sides affirmed that the signing of the MoU marksa new milestone in the bilateral relationship and creates momentum to promote theVietnam-San Marino friendship in the coming time.

Earlier, the two officials had a working session, duringwhich they briefed each other on the situation in their respective countries andexchanged views on the development orientations for the bilateral ties.

They spoke highly of the progress in socio-economicrecovery post-COVID-19 in each country and agreed on some measures to strengthenthe bilateral relationship.

Accordingly, the two sides will increase the exchange of all-level delegations, organisemany activities to promote trade, investment, and tourism, and enhance businessconnectivity, especially in the fields of services, tourism, and heritage conservation.

Hang informed the San Marino Minister about Vietnam’ssocio-economic situation in the past year, with its GDP growing by over 8%, and import-export turnover reaching a record high of over 732 billion USD.

Vietnam hopes to strengthen its multi-facetedrelations with San Marino, the Deputy Minister affirmed.

Beccari congratulated Vietnam on its achievements, highlyvalued its potential, and pledged that San Marino is ready to share itsexperience and support the Southeast Asian nation in meeting the high EC andinternational standards in trade and investment, sign cooperation agreements inpotential areas such as culture and tourism, and welcome Vietnamese exchangestudents.

Regarding regional and international issues of sharedconcern, the officials affirmed that they will maintain close coordinationand mutual support at multilateral and international forums such as the UnitedNations and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO),among others.

They also emphasised the importance of maintainingpeace and stability in the region and the world, including maritime security inline with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of theSea (UNCLOS).

Vietnam and San Marino signed an agreement toestablish diplomatic relations in 2007 and a double taxation avoidanceagreement in 2013./.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vientiane strengthen cooperation for 2026–2030

Under the MoU, the two sides will strengthen cooperation in politics – diplomacy, security – defence, legal and judicial affairs, economic affairs, education, culture and society, cooperation among mass organisations and socio-political organisations, and development support.
