Vietnam seeks maritime economic cooperation with Italy’s Puglia region

Rome (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung met with the Presidentof the Regional Council of Puglia, Cera Napoleone, and Mayors of Bari, Brindisiand Lecce cities, as part of the Vietnam-Italy Year 2023 programme in Pugliafrom October 11-12.

Thehosts said Pugliais prioritising innovation in aviation, automation, mechanical engineering,renewable energy and marine economy.

On theback of shared interests and complementary advantages in economic sectors, Hunghoped that authorities and businesses of both sides will further enhance specific cooperation.

At aseminar on raising awareness of the sea and the blue vision to 2030 of Puglia,the Vietnamese ambassador highlighted potential areas of Vietnam's maritimeeconomy, including its strategic location in international shipping routes, extensive fishing grounds, abundant and diverse marine biologicalresources, minerals, oil and gas and rich marine tourism resources.

Hesaid Vietnam supports joint efforts in developing a sustainable andclimate-resilient ocean economy through specific cooperation activities withpartners, particularly Italy, a country with a long coastline and substantialpotential and strengths in maritime economy, including Puglia.

Hungalso pointed out areas in which Vietnam, together with Puglia region andItaly in general, could work together, including sustainable oil and gas exploration,offshore wind power, aquaculture and fishing; marine tourism, maritimemanagement, biodiversity conservation and marine environment protection, amongothers.

Theseminar was held on the sidelines of the Puglia Boat Show from October11-15 which brings together enterprises and departments in the maritime andshipbuilding industry, fishing, marine tourism, water sports, and maritimetraining from Italy, Puglia and foreign countries.

On theoccasion, Hung presented a collection of five Vietnamese films to Pugliaregion to enhance cultural exchanges between the two sides. He also had ameeting and presentation about Vietnam with representatives of intellectuals andbusiness members of the Rotary Club in the region./.

Vietnam, Senegal enhance cooperation across key sectors

In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s exports to Senegal stood at 43.43 million USD, nearly equalling the total for 2024 (43.91 million USD). Vietnam mainly exports rice, pepper, agricultural products, and components, while its imports from Senegal include raw cashew nuts, fishmeal, seafood, and cotton.

Prime Minister hosts welcome ceremony for Thai counterpart
