Vietnam, Singapore step up population database connection

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) led by DeputyMinister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Duy Ngoc began a working visit to Singapore on February 1.

During the trip, the delegation worked with the SmartNation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech).

Ngoc also paid a courtesy call to Singaporean Senior Ministerand Coordinating Minister for National Security TeoChee Hean, during which both sides underscored the robust and comprehensive developmentof the bilateral strategic partnership over the past years. Building upon thisfoundation, the two countries will continue to deepen their cooperation thisyear, thereby laying the groundwork to elevate the bilateral relations in the timeahead.

Teo, for his part, expressed his delight at the growing collaborationbetween Singaporean law enforcement agencies and the MoPS over the pastyears.

He also took note of cooperation proposals from the Vietnameseside and expressed his hope for continued collaboration in key areas such as security, digitaleconomy, and human resources training.

In the morning of thesame day, the Vietnamese delegation attended the annual dialogue between the MoPSand Singapore's Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), SNDGO andGovTech led by Deputy Secretary Sim Fengji.

The discussion focused on advancing the negotiations on aMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoPS and MCI. Notably, theydeliberated the connecting of population databases through the integration ofVietnam's VNeID app and Singapore's SingPass. They also agreed on the legal aspects of datasharing between the two countries for cooperation in fields such as health care,education, tourism, crime prevention and control, and sharing of training experiences to supportthe establishment of a national big data centre, particularly in legal,technological and human resources aspects.        

Following the dialogue, the Vietnamese delegation attended an exhibitionon programming technology solutions for better public services for people - an annual event showcasing public serviceapplications to the public./.

The dispatch states that in implementing Conclusion No. 18-KL/TW dated April 2, 2026 of the 14th Party Central Committee on the 2026–2030 socio-economic development plan, national finance, public debt management and medium-term public investment, linked to the goal of achieving double-digit economic growth, the Government on April 29 issued 11 resolutions on cutting, decentralising and simplifying administrative procedures, business conditions, and conditional business lines. The Prime Minister subsequently directed ministries, agencies and localities to implement these resolutions.

Vietnamese, Angolan foreign ministers hold talks in Hanoi
