Vietnam SuperPort partners to develop railway logistics infrastructure

On January 7 in Hanoi, Vietnam SuperPort signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Strategy and Transport Development (under the Ministry of Transport) and the China Railway 16th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation) to develop railway logistics infrastructure.

The signing ceremony was attended by Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam, Nguyen Xuan Cuong - Director of the Transport Department under the Ministry of Transport, and Dr. Robert Yap - Chairman of YCH Group.

Under the MoU, Vietnam SuperPort and the Institute of Strategy and Transport Development will collaborate on optimizing freight transport efficiency and developing new railway routes and stations connecting to Vietnam SuperPort.

Positioned as a key transshipment hub along the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong–Quang Ninh corridor, the port aims to enhance logistics capacity and facilitate cost-effective, cross-border cargo transport.

Vietnam SuperPort also signed an MoU with China Railway 16th Bureau Group Vietnam Co., Ltd. to build a railway cargo station and a rail link to Vietnam’s national network. This partnership will support logistics services and cross-border freight transport between Vietnam, China, and the region.

The port will provide integrated logistics solutions, including planning, cargo handling, warehousing, distribution, and multimodal transport, improving railway transport efficiency and competitiveness.

Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort, emphasized that these partnerships are key to developing a multimodal logistics hub integrating road, air, sea, and rail transport across its 83-hectare site. “Strengthening logistics with transport infrastructure, especially railways, will enhance Vietnam’s supply chain integration,” he said.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Hien, Acting Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Transport Development, highlighted that ICD Vinh Phuc–Vietnam SuperPort serves as a major gateway for industrial cargo from Vinh Phuc and neighboring provinces to Vietnam’s key international ports and border crossings with China.

As a leading logistics infrastructure developer, Vietnam SuperPort is committed to sustainable development, targeting net-zero emissions by 2040 in line with the Ministry of Transport’s green transport roadmap.

Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of the Transport Department under the Ministry of Transport noted that Vietnam and China have strong potential for transport infrastructure cooperation, while Singapore remains a key logistics partner in ASEAN. Singapore has also shared expertise in green port development, helping Vietnam adopt clean energy solutions and reduce emissions at major seaports.

These collaborations will enhance Vietnam’s competitiveness, promote sustainable development, and strengthen regional trade ties./.
