As many as 13 Vietnamese contestants will join 1,000 others from 67 countries and territories to compete at the 42 nd WorldSkills Competition in Leipzig, Germany from June 26 to July 8.
The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs held a ceremony in Hanoi on June 24 to see off the contestants.
Participants are expected to compete in 45 official skills and one performance skill in six fields, including construction and building technology, creative arts and fashion, information and communication technology, manufacturing and engineering technology, social and personal services, and logistics and transportation.
The Vietnamese delegation will take part in 12 skills, encompassing cooking, restaurant services, electronics, carpentry, bricklaying, wall and floor tiling, web design, information technology and software solutions, refrigeration, fashion and mechatronics.
This is the fourth time Vietnam has attended the competition, said Director of the General Department of Vocational Training Duong Duc Lan, adding that the delegation aims to gain more experience, strengthen solidarity and promote mutual understanding with other participating delegations.
Vietnam first attended the WorldSkills Competition in Japan in 2007.
It also sent 13 contestants to the 41 st competition in London in 2011, who bagged seven outstanding certificates, ranking 23rd out of the 48 participating countries and territories.-VNA
