A Vietnamese delegation is participating in the 29th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) which started on June 15 in Geneva, Switzerland, in its capacity as member of the HRC’s in the 2014-2016 tenure and as co-coordinator of ASEAN at the council in 2015.
The delegation is led by Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nation and other international organisations in Geneva.
The delegation is expected to contribute to general debates on human rights protection, particularly the protection of vulnerable groups such as women and children. The delegation will also host several events to share Vietnam’s experiences and ideas regarding the protection of human rights, as part of activities to carry out the country’s commitment in connection with its bid for the HRC membership.
The 29th HRC session, to continue until July 3, will address several urgent global issues concerning human rights and touch on migration and the situation in Ukraine, South Sudan, and Syria.
