Vietnam to have more than 7,000km of expressways

Hanoi (VNA) – Total projected length of Vietnam’s expressway system by 2030 is set to stretch fromthe initial 6,400 km to more than 7,000km, as the Ministry of Transport is mullingadding several routes to the national network.

Specifically, in the north, the transport sector will add the Hoa Binh-SonLa-Dien Bien expressway, with the Hoa Binh-Moc Chau section to be funded before2030.

It will invest in building the Cho Moi-Bac Kan city route before 2030 and theBac Kan-Cao Bang route after that year. Meanwhile, a four-lane highway linkingHa Giang province with the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway will be constructedbefore 2030.

In the central and Central Highlands region, a six-lane expressway from Thanh Thuyborder gate to Vinh city in Nghe An province, to be built before 2030, will beconnected to the Hanoi-Vientiane (Laos) expressway.

In Kon Tum province, a highway from Ngoc Hoi to Bo Y - an international bordergate located at Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border T-junction, will be invested after2030.

In the south, the ministry hopes to add an expressway from Go Dau to Xa Matborder gate in Tay Ninh province, connecting the economic development region ofthe province and Cambodia with HCM City. Its Go Dau-Tay Ninh section is expectedto be completed before 2030.

In addition, many expressways will be expanded, including Phap Van (Hanoi)-Cau Gie-PhuThu (Ha Nam) and Day Giay (Dong Nai)-Trung Luong (Tien Giang).

According to the ministry, as Van Phong in the central coastal province of KhanhHoa will be developed into an economic zone, the Van Phong-Nha Trang expresswaywill have eight lanes after 2030.

Along the North-South highway, the progress of several projects will beadjusted, with Cao Bo (Nam Dinh)-Bai Vot (Ha Tinh), Cam Lo (Quang Tri)-La Son(Thua Thien-Hue) and Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa)-Dau Giay (Dong Nai) sections and MyThuan 2 Bridge to be invested before 2020.

Under the national expressway network planning, 2,703km of expressway must bebuilt by 2020. However, by that year, only 1,267km is expected to be completed.In 2021, more than 600km of North-South expressway is projected to be put intouse.

Most expressways have from two to four lanes and a few have six to eight lanes,including Lang-Hoa Lac, Nhat Tan-Noi Bai, Hanoi-Hai Phong, and Hanoi-Bac Giang.-VNA
