Ministry aims to mobilise resources for transport infrastructure

–The Ministry of Transport (MoT) will work on solutions, mechanisms,and policies to push forward the mobilisation of resources for transportinfrastructure development in the second half of this year, said chief of the ministry’s office Nguyen Tri Duc.

The MoTalso aims to effectively realise the mid-term investment goals for 2016-2020, aswell as the plan set for 2018, according to the official.

On behalfof the Government, the ministry will report the plan on using the standbycapital of 15 trillion VND (645 million USD) of the mid-term investment planfor 2016-2020, Duc said.

At the sametime, the MoT will speed up the implementation of key projects such as LongThanh International Airport, the expansion of Tan Son Nhat InternationalAirport, the North-South Expressway, and north-south high-speed railway.

Attentionwill be paid to construction site inspection, project quality, workplacesafety, environmental protection, project progress, and capital disbursement,especially in key projects like the Da Nang-Quang Ngai highway, the secondphase of the Phap Van-Cau Gie highway, and the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway,Duc added.

Reviewingthe ministry’s performance over the first six months of this year, Duc said theMoT completed feasibility study reports and is assessing dossiers of threesub-projects of the North-South Expressway.

Theofficial said the ministry has signed a consultation contract to make afeasibility study report on the Long Thanh International Airport project.

TheGovernment has assigned the ministry to ratify adjustments to the planning of TanSon Nhat International Airport, he added.

Regardingtransportation management, Duc said the ministry has employed solutions toimprove the quality of services, noting that during the reviewed period, up to 659.95million tonnes of cargo and more than 1.8 billion passengers were transported,up 9.7 percent and 10.4 percent year-on-year, respectively.

He did, however,point out the complex traffic situation, with serious road, waterway, andrailway traffic accidents.

TransportMinister Nguyen Van The said the ministry has made efforts in speeding up theimplementation of projects and become one of the ministries with the highestrate of disbursement.

However, hesaid, the disbursement rate of 43 percent still remains moderate compared to previousyears.-VNA
