A Mekong Sub-regional Tourism Youth Ambassador programme will debut from October 17 to 21 in Ho Chi Minh City.

60 student representatives from HCM City, Bangkok, Vientiane, Phnom Penh and Yangon - will gather in HCM City to participate in many exchange activities in cultural, sports and tourism sectors.

Particularly, the students will take part in the Mekong Sub-regional Tourism Youth Ambassador contest to seek a tourism ambassador for the five cities to promote regional tourism to international friends.

Deputy Director of HCM City’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism La Quoc Khanh said the programme, which will be held annually in participating cities, will be an effective channel for tourism promotion through cultural exchange activities between young people in the region.

The programme is being held following a joint statement of the Cities Mayors Summit in HCM City for regional tourism development in 2012 and 2013.-VNA
