
Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam treasures and is determined to consolidateand expand its comprehensive cooperation with Cuba, affirmed Deputy PrimeMinister Truong Hoa Binh while welcoming First Vice President of the Council ofState of Cuba Salvador Valdés Mesa on September 13.
The First Vice President who led a Cuban delegation is inVietnam to attend a ceremony to mark 45 years since Cuban leader Fidel Castrofirst visit to the Southeast Asian nation (September 1973-2018).
Deputy PM Binh affirmed that Vietnam always bears in mindCuba’s support for its struggle for sovereign independence, territorialintegrity and national reunification.
The celebration of the historic visit contributes totightening the two countries’ special relationship and disseminate it to thetwo peoples, especially young generations.
Salvador pledged absolute support for Vietnam’srevolutionary cause, saying that Vietnam’s triumph is of significance to Cubaand the progressive movement in Latin American nations.
According to him, the Cuba visit by General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong in March hasmotivated bilateral political and economic ties. Both sides have to effectivelyimplement signed agreements, particularly in trade and investment.
At the talks, both sides exchanged views on their country’ssituation, and measures to increase the efficiency of bilateral collaboration.
They agreed that the bilateral relationship has grown wellin all fields, reflected though regular delegation exchanges, and the effectiveorganisation of theoretical conferences, political consultations and defencedialogues.
Vietnam and Cuba have coordinated closely and supported eachother at international organisations and multilateral forums. Under thecoordination of the Inter-Governmental Committee, both have collaboratedeffectively in the fields of defence, agriculture, information andcommunications, science and technology.
However, the leaders noted that economic, trade andinvestment ties have yet to match the two countries’ potential.
Therefore, they stressed the need to maintain high-rankingdelegation exchanges and the regular organisation of cooperative mechanisms,and seek new cooperative measures to boost the bilateral relationscomprehensively.-VNA
