State President Nguyen Minh Triet received Egon Krenz, former Secretary General of the former German Socialist Unity Party in the former German Democratic Republic, in Hanoi on September 14.
President Triet attributed Vietnam’s present achievements to the support and assistance it had received from other socialist countries in the past, including the former German Democratic Republic, during its struggle for national independence and reunification.
Egon Krenz said he was impressed with Vietnam’s achievements, particularly the changes in Hanoi to celebrate its millennium anniversary.
He recalled the days of supporting Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and underlined that the friendship between Germany and Vietnam set an example for other countries to follow.
He added that he hoped that new cooperative ties will offer investment opportunities in Vietnam./.
