Vietnam, UK hold second defence policy dialogue

The second defence policy dialogue at the deputy ministerial level between Vietnam and the UK took place in Hanoi on September 30 under the co-chair of Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and British Minister of State for Defence Baroness Goldie.

Hanoi (VNA) – The second defence policy dialogue at the deputy ministerial levelbetween Vietnam and the UK took place in Hanoi on September 30 under the co-chairof Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinhand British Minister ofState for Defence Baroness Goldie.

The twosides highlighted the purpose and significance of the Vietnam-UK defence policydialogue and positive development in bilateral defence ties in the recent past,especially after the two countries renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)on bilateral defence cooperation and successfully organised the first dialogue.

They affirmed that the defence cooperationbetween the two countries has been flourishing in different fields, such as Englishtraining, logistics, hydrograph and defense industry.

The two sides underlined the need to increase the exchange of delegations atall levels, particularly high-ranking delegations, to promote mutualunderstanding.

Vinh said Vietnamese Minister of NationalDefence General Ngo Xuan Lich will pay an official visit to the UK in the timeto come, and Vietnam is ready to facilitate the next visits by British Navyships to the Southeast Asian country.

He called on the UK side to continue exchanging experience in military medicine,UN peacekeeping and promoting exchanges among young officers of the two armies.

Vinh suggested the UK support and expand English training for Vietnamese militarypersonnel, saying that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence is willingto receive British army officers to study Vietnamese language in Vietnam.

The two sides should promote cooperation and mutual support at multilateralforums, he added.

The same day, Vietnamese Minister of National Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich hosteda reception for Baroness Goldie, during whichthe Vietnamese minister spoke highly of the bilateral defencecooperation in the recent past, as well as effective assistance from the British Ministry of Defence in deploying the second level-2 fieldhospital inSouth Sudan and in teaching English to Vietnam’s UN peacekeeping forces.

He said that the defence policy dialogue is a foundation and an important cooperationmechanism in defence relations between the two countries./.

Vietnam, Cambodia sign defence cooperation plan for 2027

Giang called on agencies and units of the two defence ministries to implement agreed cooperation programmes, focusing on political and ideological education to strengthen political trust, and cooperation between military services and arms. The two sides should step up coordination in border management and protection to build a Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, cooperation and development.

Deputy PM visits China’s Tsinghua University, seeking closer educational cooperation

Tsinghua has worked to implement the Vietnamese and Chinese leaders’ orientations for higher education cooperation. Last year, it admitted 27 Vietnamese students and postgraduates, the highest number to date, all of whom received scholarships. The university also hosted the second Vietnam-China Higher Education Cooperation Forum, helping promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries’ educational institutions.
