Vietnam, UK tighten legislative ties

National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu has paid a four-day working visit to the UK to explore its legislative experiences and judicial reform as well as promote the two countries’ legislative ties.

During his stay from July 16-19, the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman met Speaker of the UK House of Commons John Bercow who expressed his delight at the development of the UK-Vietnam relationship.

He conveyed NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong’s congratulations to Bercow on his election as Speaker of the UK House of Commons and the invitation to him to visit Vietnam at the earliest time.

Vice Chairman Luu also held working sessions with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and met the UK-Vietnam Parliamentarians’ Friendship Group and the UK parliamentarians’ delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The host praised Vietnam’s development over recent years and committed to make active contributions to the bilateral cooperation.

They also exchanged experiences of the operation of the committees, especially the Justice Committee of the UK Parliament as well as its legislative process./.
