Vietnam once again urges the US to put an immediate end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.

The statement was made by Ambassador Pham Vinh Quang, Vietnam Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Nations, at the 67 th session of the UN General Assembly on a resolution on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the US against Cuba in New York on November 13.

The ambassador stressed that Vietnam shares the views expressed by the international community in its continued opposition to the embargo, saying that the embargo contravenes the fundamental norms of international law, international humanitarian law, fundamental principles and purposes of the Charter of the UN, especially the principles of the sovereign equality, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs and self-determination of states.

Vietnam wishes to reiterate its support for and solidarity with Cuba , he affirmed.

This is the 21 st time in 21 consecutive years the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on this issue. It was passed with 188/3 this time./.VNA
