Vietnam, US cooperate in search for soldiers missing during wartime

The Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) on cooperation in improving the capacity and providing technical assistance for identification of remains of soldiers missing during wartime.

Hanoi(VNA) – The Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) and the UnitedStates Agency for International Development (USAID) have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) oncooperation in improving the capacity and providing technical assistance for identification ofremains of soldiers missing during wartime.

The signing ceremony inHanoi on July 8 was attended by VietnameseDeputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J.Kritenbrink and Director of USAID office in Vietnam Michael Greene.

Under the MOI, the USAID will partner with the VNOSMPto fund a new three to five year, 2.4-million-USD project, which aims tosupport Vietnam’s efforts to find and identify Vietnamese soldiersmissing during wartime.

The USAID willprovide Vietnam with the cutting edge technology for DNA extraction andanalysis, work with Vietnam to increase the effectiveness and efficiency oftheir laboratories, and ultimately increase the number of remains that can be accurately reunited with their families.

Speaking atthe ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Son said the MOI was signed in a specialoccasion when Vietnam and the US are celebrating the 25th anniversary of theirdiplomatic relations.

The twocountries’ cooperation in searching for soldiers missing during wartime has played an active part in beefing upthe bilateral ties over recent years and at the same time, helped both sidesunderstand more about each other’s goodwill, thus fostering expansion ofpartnership in other areas, Son said.

Vietnam willcontinue actively and effectively cooperating with the US in this matter, he affirmed./.

Education-training sector preparing for strategic turning point: Minister

Reviewing the sector’s performance in the past five years, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said the scale of the national education system continued to expand across all levels, with more than 24.5 million learners nationwide. Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)

Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel pays courtesy visit to Da Nang
