Vietnam will continue making effective and practical contributions to common efforts aimed at increasing AIPA’s role in building a peaceful, stable, cooperative and prosperous ASEAN community.

Making the statement at the first plenary session of the General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on September 19, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said the Vietnamese legislature will work with the Government to overhaul the economy, perfect legal system and business environment, she noted.

She called for concrete and practical recommendations to minimise differences, harmonise laws and further uphold the ASEAN member states’ legislatures in their political systems.

The Vice Chairwoman also called on AIPA to further assist ASEAN in politics, security, socio-economics, environment, and green and sustainable development.

The Vietnamese delegation proposed establishing an ASEAN green growth centre, a regional cooperation mechanism which will help regional countries share experience in green growth and enhance their resilience in the face of climate change and rising sea level.

Participants were unanimous that their legislative bodies will enhance cooperation with the ASEAN, one of the most dynamic regions in the world, to realise the goal of building the ASEAN Community by 2015.
They also adopted the AIPA’s agenda and action plan.

Themed “The role of AIPA in realising the ASEAN Community”, this year’s event drew delegates from member countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and observer countries like Japan, Belarus, Canada, China, Russia and the European Parliament.-VNA
