Vietnam came out a triumphant first at the Southeast Asian Rowing Championships which wrapped up on May 19 in Malaysia.

After seven days of competition, the Vietnamese athletes had claimed five golds, four silvers and one bronze.

Pham Thi Hai and Tran Thi An triumphed in the women's light-weight double sculls on the closing day to put Vietnam in a strong position.

Earlier, Tran Thi Sam and Pham Thi Thao had succeeded in the women's light-weight single sculls event.

Nguyen Van Linh topped the light-weight single sculls category for the men while Pham Thi Thao equalled this in the women's class.

The last gold went to quartet Le Thi An, Bui Thi Nhat, Nguyen Thi Trinh and Tran Thi Sam who brought home the goods in the women's light-weight quad sculls.

Indonesia and the Philippines claimed the two runners-up spots for the competition.

The national team arrives home on May 21 and will continue their training in Hanoi in preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.-VNA
