Moscow (VNA) – A delegation of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) led by Party Central Committee member and VWU President Ha Thi Nga had meetings with representatives from major women’s unions in Russia on September 26 aiming to strengthen their cooperation as part of the delegation’s working visit to Russia.
Receiving the Vietnamese delegation, Nina Ostanina, Chair of the public movement "All-Russian Women's Union - Hope of Russia" and head of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood, said that Russia and Vietnam share many views on family, women and children, emphasising the importance of protecting traditional values, the role of the family nucleus in society, gender equality, and protecting children from negative influences.
She welcomed the cooperation between the two women's organisations for the goal of promoting women's participation in the cause of national construction and development and hoped that such cooperation will grow more practical, especially in 2024 which has been chosen as the Year of the Family in Russia.
For her part, VWU President Nga expressed the affection and gratitude of Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese women in particular for the assistance that the Soviet Union in the past and Russia today have given to Vietnam during the country’s national protection, construction and development.
She also thanked Russia for sending aid to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.
Nga expressed her impression with the results that Russia has achieved in gender equality, and informed the host on the achievements in the field that Vietnam have made in recent years, highlighting that female deputies account for over 30% of the total deputies in the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam.
Noting that the two women's unions have maintained cooperative relations mainly through events held in Russia, she suggested the two unions establish a regular cooperation mechanism such as a Vietnam-Russia Women's Forum, to further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation, contributing to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
The same day, the Vietnamese delegation met with a delegation of the Women's Movement of United Russia of the ruling party “United Russia”.
Welcoming the Vietnamese guests, Daria Lantratova, deputy chair of the Women's Movement of United Russia and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, said that the Communist Party of Vietnam is a long-standing and trustworthy friend of Russia. The relationship between the two countries has stood the test of many difficulties and challenges, particularly during the wars to defend the Fatherland, to which women had made great contributions, she said.
The host said that with over 170,000 members, the Women's Movement of United Russia has engaged more and more women in politics, business and social activities.
Lantratova said she hopes that her union will soon establish a cooperative relationship with the WVU.
VWU President Nga agreed, affirming that based on the similarity in core traditional values, practical cooperation between the two unions should be strengthened, contributing to promoting the good relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the people of Vietnam and Russia./.
