Vietnamese abroad celebrate southe liberation anniversary

Vietnamese communities abroad recently organised activities to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification (April 30) and the 131st anniversary of May Day (May 1).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamesecommunities abroad recently organised activities, including meetings and sportscompetitions, to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification (April 30) and the 131st anniversary of May Day (May 1).

In Prague, the Czech Republic, theVietnam table tennis tournament attracted nearly 20 players from Prague, Plzenclubs and several amateur ones from other cities and provinces. Finalists willbe chosen to compete with Vietnamese nationals from Poland, Germany, Hungary,Norway, France and Slovakia at the Vietnam friendly table tennis championship slatedfor June 3 in Budapest, Hungary.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamesecommunity in South Chungcheong province’s Asan city and several Vietnamesestudents’ associations held a football tournament with eight teams comprisingworkers and students from Asan and adjacent localities.

South Chungcheong province ishome to nearly 10,000 Vietnamese, including around 4,000, mostly students, workersand Vietnamese brides.

On the occasion, the VietnameseAssociation in the UK, the Vietnamese Business Association and the VietnameseStudent Association in the UK co-organised Charity Golf Day attracting 75amateur golfers.

Proceeds raised at the event willbe used for the Vietnamese community’s activities in the UK, including thesecond Vietnamese Football Cup scheduled for July 30, the Mid-Autumn Festivalfor children and Lewishham school.

Meanwhile, a meeting celebratingthe occasion took place in Macau, China on April 30.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen VanPhong from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao recalledmilestones of the country during the war, affirming that the Spring Victory1975 is a glorious chapter in history during the national construction anddefence.

He extended congratulations tomore than 20,000 Vietnamese workers in Macau on the festive day, and hailedtheir contributions to the home country over the past years.

Vice Chairwoman of the VietnamFellow Countrymen Friendship Association in Macau Nguyen Thi Tuan introducedunique characteristics of Vietnamese culture, including dances and folk songs.

Since its establishment inJanuary 2013, the Vietnam Fellow Countrymen Friendship Association in Macaucurrently records around 2,000 members. It regularly holds music shows as wellas raises fund for disaster victims in Vietnam’s central region, the poor andsoldiers in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.-VNA

Da Nang to replace 1,140 dilapidated houses by May 2025

The total budget for the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing in Da Nang this year is estimated at 47.4 billion VND (1.85 billion USD). Of this, 30.3 billion VND will be sourced from the state budget, while the remainder from the for the poor fund and other fundraising efforts.

Nearly 9,000 blood units collected at red spring festival

First launched in 2008 to address post-Tet blood shortages, the festival expanded nationwide in 2010 under the direction of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign. Over 17 editions, the festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of donors across the nation, with the Hanoi event – hosted by the institute – collecting nearly 120,000 blood units.

Vietnamese, Chinese localities promote exchanges

The New Year meeting, which was first held in 2016, and the Joint Working Committee’s meeting, initiated from 2008, have proved efficiency, leading to significant common understandings regarding exchanges and cooperation among the parties.
