London (VNA) – The Vietnamese Association in the UK elected a 25-member executive board, including one President and four Vice Presidents during its eighth Congress in London on April 8.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An called on the Vietnamese community to stay united to help Vietnamese young generations accustomed to homeland culture via cultural exchange and language learning.
Delegates listened to the association’s report reviewing its activities over the past five years and outlining future work such as providing consultancy regarding law, health care and housing, and stepping up cultural and sports exchange.
Vuong Manh Hung was elected as President while Huynh Thanh Phong, Nguyen Minh Duc, Nguyen Quoc Thanh and Nguyen Quynh Anh were Vice Presidents.
Meanwhile, the annual football championship of the Association of Vietnamese Students in the UK (SVUK Cup), one of the most anticipated events for Vietnamese students across the UK, took place in London on April 7-8.
Born in 2002, SVUK Cup is the largest sport event of the association.
This year’s tournament attracted 300 players from 16 teams of 16 SVUK chapters. It was supported by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese business community in the UK, together with 45 SVUK chapters in the country.-VNA
