Olympian Minh is world No 65, forcing him to enter the qualifying round.
There are 16 players competing in the qualifying round, with the top four entering the main draw.
Minh will face Mark Caljouw of the Netherlands, world No 45 today.
If Minh wins, he will meet the winner of the match between Kenta Nishimoto of Japan and Ygor Coelho of Brazil.
The event, which runs until October 29, will have a total prize fund of 325,000 USD.-VNA
