Vietnamese badminton team enjoys first win at Sudirman Cup

Vietnam secured their first win over New Zealand at the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament at the Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia, on May 21.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam secured their firstwin over New Zealand at the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament at the CarraraSport and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia, on May 21.

National top athlete Nguyen Tien Minh beat DylanSoedjasa 21-8, 21-7 in the men’s singles match.

His wife and teammate Vu Thi Trang defeated SallyFu 21-6, 21-5 in the women’s singles.

Duo Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao won 21-13,18-21, 22-20 against Oliver Leydon-Davis and Susannah Leydon-Davis in the mixeddoubles.

Earlier, Nguyen Thuy Linh and Pham Nhu Thao had nodifficulty winning 21-16, 21-11 against Anona Pak and Danielle Tahuri in thewomen’s doubles.

Do Tuan Duc and Pham Hong Nam made a strong comeback to beat Kevin Dennerly-Minturn and Oliver Leydon-Davis 18-21, 21-14, 12-21.

Vietnam will play the second match of Group 2Aagainst Canada on May 23.

Canada defeated Scotland 3-2 on May 21.-VNA

Golf tournament marks 50 years of Vietnam–Germany ties
