Vietnamese, Chinese leaders cheer diplomatic ties

The message by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, State PresidentNguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and NA ChairmanNguyen Phu Trong wrote: China was the first state in the world torecognise and establish diplomatic relations with the DemocraticRepublic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), marking anhistorical milestone in the time-honoured relationship between the twocountries, creating a source of strong encouragement to the Vietnamesepeople’s resistance war and favourable conditions for the bilateralrelations to develop in all aspects.

The Vietnamese people always bear in mind with deep gratitude the greatsupport and assistance the fraternal Chinese Party, government andpeople have extended to them during their past struggle for nationalliberation as well as national construction at present.

“We are pleased to see that, in recent years, the Vietnam-Chinafriendly and cooperative relations for mutual benefit have grownrapidly, strongly and comprehensively in all fields,” they wrote.

Regular visits and meetings by senior leaders from both nations havebeen maintained, while mutual trust has been on the rise and theexchanges and multifaceted cooperation have been expanded effectively.

In particular, the agreement on the building of a comprehensivestrategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China on thebasis of the “16-word” motto (Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensivecooperation, long-lasting stability and looking toward the future) andthe “four-good” spirit (Good neighbours, good friends, good comradesand good partners) has formed a new and important momentum to elevatethe bilateral relationship to a new height.

Outstanding issues in the bilateral relations have been tackledgradually, including the completion of the land border demarcation andmarker planting and the signing of documents regarding the shared landborder in the past two years, which were of historical significance.

The celebration of the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomaticties marks the beginning the Year of Vietnam-China Friendship 2010, theleaders noted, adding that this is a good opportunity to furtherstrengthen the traditional friendship, solidarity, mutual trust andmutually beneficial cooperation between the two Parties, States andpeople.

They affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam alwaystreasure and consistently do their utmost to develop the friendship andcomprehensive cooperation with the fraternal Communist Party,Government and people of China .

“We believe that, with concerted efforts of both sides, theVietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership willcontinue to expand, bringing prosperity to both nations and happinessto their people,” the Vietnamese leaders stressed.

Chinese Party General Secretary and State President Hu Jintao, Chairmanof the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo,and Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao, shared these views,writing in their message that the establishment of Vietnam-Chinadiplomatic relations was an important event and milestone in thehistory of the bilateral relationship. Over the past 60 years, theChina-Vietnam traditional friendship, which was set up and nurtured bypredecessor leaders, has become dear to their people’s heart anddeveloped constantly.

Entering the new century based on the “16-word” motto and the“four-good” spirit, the relations between China and Vietnam haveconstantly reached new heights, building up the comprehensive strategiccooperative partnership, they wrote.

Bilateral cooperation in areas has reaped a lot of achievements, whilethe issues related to border and territory have been dealt withstep-by-step and coordination in international and regional matters hasbeen maintained.

Reality has proved that the promotion of the friendly neighbourlinessand mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Vietnam is inline with the common desires and basic interests of the two countries’people and beneficial to peace, stability and development in theregion.

The Chinese Party, Government and people attaches great importance todeveloping the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership.

“On the threshold of the new historic stage, we wish to join effortswith Vietnam to uphold the time-honoured friendship, increase thefriendly exchanges and expand cooperation for mutual benefit, thusopening up a new stage in the friendly neighbourliness and cooperationbetween China and Vietnam ,” the Chinese leaders elaborated.

They went on to say that 2010 is the Year of China-Vietnam Friendshipand China is willing to join hands with Vietnam to well organisecelebrations and boost mutual understanding and friendship between theChinese and Vietnamese people, ushering in a new chapter in theChina-Vietnam relationship.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham GiaKhiem, who is Chairman of the Vietnamese Steering Committee forVietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation, exchanged congratulatory messageswith State Councillor Dai Bingguo, Chairman of the Chinese SteeringCommittee for China-Vietnam Bilateral Cooperation, and Foreign MinisterYang Jiechi./.
