Prague (VNA) – A delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic led by Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam has held working sessions with leaders of Chrastava city, where President Ho Chi Minh visited in 1957 and met with 100 Vietnamese cadets studying there.
The ambassador reiterated a proposal to place a stele in commemoration of the late leader’s visit. He emphasised that with the efforts of the Chrastava city administration, the embassy and the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, this idea will soon become a reality. This will be a special event on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, and an important milestone for the Vietnamese people to remember the Chrastava city and the Czech Republic, he continued.
Documents about Vietnamese cadets living and studying in Chrastava during the 1956-1960 period as well as President Ho Chi Minh's visit in July 1957 are kept at the city committee's headquarters. Related articles and photos are also posted on the city's website as one of the beautiful memories and respect of the Chrastava people for the late leader and their affection for Vietnamese cadets.
For his part, Michael Canov, Mayor of Chrastava city, expressed his consent with the ambassador's proposal to mark President Ho Chi Minh's visit. He thanked the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for supporting local residents during the 2010 floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and their contributions to the city's socio-economic development.
The delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy has also worked with the Vietnamese association’s chapters in Liberec province. The ambassador hoped that the Vietnamese community here would continue to stay united and support each other for sustainable development and deep integration into the host society as well as have many activities to preserve the national cultural identity, including the teaching and learning of the Vietnamese language for younger generations, thereby enhancing the cohesion in the community./.
