Vietnamese Foreign Minister meets with DPRK counterpart

Singapore (VNA) – The Party, State and people of Vietnam treasure and want tofurther strengthen and promote the traditional friendship with the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), said a senior Vietnamese official.

Duringa bilateral meeting with DPRK Minister of Foreign Affairs Ri Yong-ho on thesidelines of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-51) andrelated meetings in Singapore on August 3, Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign MinisterPham Binh Minh applauded the positive progress on the Korean peninsula,especially the outcomes reached at recent summits between the DPRK, and theRepublic of Korea (RoK) and the United States (US).

Minhexpressed his hope that concerned parties would continue to maintain dialoguesto ensure peace, stability and cooperation on the Korean peninsula as well asin the region and the world.

Ri,for his part, spoke highly of the bilateral friendship and cooperation withVietnam.

Hethanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for the valuable assistance theyhad given to the DPRK in the past, especially the provision of dozens ofthousands of tonnes of rice to help the country address its food shortage inthe 1990s.

Riemphasized the desire to elevate the relationship between the DPRK and Vietnamto a new height in the time to come.

Healso affirmed the DPRK’s commitment to the denuclearization process on theKorean peninsula.-VNA
