Vietnamese girl Nguyen Thao Nguyen, who is a final-year chemicals major at the University of Southampton of the UK has won the first prise and Roscoe Medal at the “Set for Britain 2010” competition.

The Saigon Gia Phong daily says Thao won the award of the p hysical sciences area for her project on Porphyrin-DNA as scaffold for nanoarchitecture and nanotherapy that would help in strengthening functions of medical equipment in treatment of skin cancer by laser beam.

Nguyen has earned a master degree in chemicals at the University of Oxford . She won first prize for her research project of the University of Southampton in 2008 and a prize for young scientist of the British Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2009 (EPSRC).

“Set for Britain” is an annual contest, which aims to encourage, support and promote Britain's early-stage and early-career research scientists, engineers and technologists./.
