Pham Bao Son, a 33-year-old university lecturer in Hanoi, has become the first Vietnamese to win an IBM Faculty Award given by the US-based computer and technology giant for scientific research.

Son, a doctor of computer science at the Hanoi National University’s College of Technology, won the award for his research proposal on “artificial intelligence,” in which incremental knowledge is acquired for natural language processing.

Dr. Son is ranked among the top 10 outstanding young figures in information technology, winning the golden globe award organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology to encourage or recognise young people working and studying in the information technology field.

The annual IBM award is intended to foster collaboration between researchers at leading universities all over the world./.
