Vietnamese, Lao Ministries of Public Security step up cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Gen. To Lam held talkswith his Lao counterpart, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Vilay Lakhamfong, following awelcome ceremony for the latter in Hanoi on February 20.

Atthe talks, Lam congratulated Laos on its recent great achievements and hopedthat the Lao people would reap greater successes in the cause of nationaldefence and construction.

Hestressed that Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and its Lao counterpart  have regularly exchanged information about theinternational and regional situation related to national security as well as socialorder and safety of each nation.

Thetwo ministries have also shared information about transnational organisedcrimes, hi-tech crimes, human trafficking crimes and criminal and drug-relatedcases regarding citizens of Vietnam and Laos, he said.

Publicsecurity forces in border provinces and districts of Vietnam and Laos haveactively deployed measures to prevent and combat crimes and sabotage activitiesof hostile forces, thus safeguarding the shared borderline of peace, friendshipand contributing to the enhancement of solidarity and reliable relationshipbetween the people and public security forces of the two nations, Lam noted.

Regardingcooperation orientations in 2019, he suggested the two ministries continue theexchange of delegations and work experiences, and coordinate together to dealwith arising problems, not letting hostile forces to distort and undermine thefine traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Lamalso proposed the two ministries speed up negotiations so as to soon sign anagreement on the transfer of convicts and another pact on extradition, and strengthencooperation in the fight against transnational crimes and hostile forces.

VilayLakhamfong affirmed that the close cooperation between the two ministries hashelped deepen and reinforce the friendship and special solidarity between the Parties,States, people and public security forces of Laos and Vietnam.

Hespoke highly of the outcomes of cooperation between the two ministries in 2018and expected that the bilateral cooperative ties will be lifted to a new height.

Followingthe talks, the two ministers signed a bilateral cooperation plan in 2019 betweenthe Ministries of Public Security of Vietnam and Laos.

Later,a ceremony was held to present orders and medals conferred by the Lao State andcertificates of merit bestowed by the Lao Minister of Public Security to unitsand individuals of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.-VNA

Top leader of Vietnam receives Vientiane official in Hanoi

The host leader stressed that cooperation between localities, particularly between the capitals of Hanoi and Vientiane, plays an especially important role as a pioneering force in effectively implementing the foreign polices of the two Parties and States, while also serving as a bridge between politics and development, as well as between strategy and concrete action.

Hanoi, Vientiane promote comprehensive cooperation in new phase

The capitals of Vietnam and Laos signed memoranda of understanding on joint work in the fields of public communication and mass mobilisation, women and youth affairs, foreign relations, industry and trade, education and health care. These are expected to provide an important basis for implementing their cooperation priorities for 2026–2030.
