Vietnamese leader hails Cambodian Buddhists’ contributions to relations

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen PhuTrong met with Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong and Supreme Patriarch of the DhammayuttikaNikaya order Bour Kry of Cambodia on February 26, part of his State visit tothe country.

Meeting with Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong atUnalom pagoda and Supreme Patriarch Bour Kry at Svay Pope pagoda in Phnom Penh,the Vietnamese leader sent the best wishes to all Buddhists in Cambodia.

Noting the outcomes of his talks with KingNorodom Sihamoni, he said the two sides shared the view that for the last over50 years, the friendly neighbourliness between Vietnam and Cambodia hasweathered every challenge to obtain comprehensive achievements, which serves asa foundation for their solid development.

Such great attainments have been contributed bythe countries’ people, including Buddhist dignitaries and followers ofCambodia, Trong noted, adding that they also affirmed the resolve toconsolidate and continuously develop the sound neighbourliness, traditionalfriendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between thetwo nations.

On behalf of the Vietnamese people, the Party GeneralSecretary and President expressed sincere thanks to all Cambodian Buddhists fortheir good sentiments towards and wholehearted support for Vietnam during thestruggle for national independence in the past and development efforts atpresent.

He voiced his belief that the two countries’relations will further flourish in the future.

Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong and SupremePatriarch Bour Kry lauded Vietnam’s enormous and all-round developmentsuccesses. They affirmed that the Cambodian people never forget thewholehearted assistance of the Vietnamese.

They emphasised that the two countries are bothbrothers and neighbours, and the State visit by Party General Secretary andPresident Trong is a milestone helping to strengthen their solidarity andfriendship.
