Hanoi (VNA) - Cadres, Party members, soldiers and people from all social strata nationwide have placed their full faith in the success of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), which is expected to open up a new development period for the country.
Since its establishment, the CPV has held 11 National Congresses and each marks a milestone in making the country stronger and the people’s lives better, said Hoang Dinh Tien, a retired cadre from Pleiku city in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai .
According to him, there’s a need to give priority to building a strong party in order to make a comprehensive and efficient leadership.
Patriarch Dinh Mark, a Party member from Gia Lai’s Krok Kret village, said that the Party and Government have paid much attention to reducing poverty among ethnic minorities. He said he hopes for continued investment in developing infrastructure in rural areas, especially those inhabited by ethnics.
A Bang, a Xe Dang ethnic in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum , expressed his hope that the 12 th Congress will continue to elect people with competence and morality to lead the country towards industrialisation and modernisation.
Meanwhile, farmer Tran Van Sau from the southern province of Long An said he wishes that the Congress will issue policies to boost agriculture and improve farmers’ living conditions.
The 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam officially opened at Hanoi ’s National Convention Centre in the morning of January 21.
The Congress is themed “Promoting the building of a pure and strong Party, while putting into play the strength of the entire nation and socialist democracy, stepping up reform comprehensively and synchronously, firmly safeguarding the Fatherland and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, and striving to turn Vietnam into a modernity-oriented industrialised country”.
A total of 1,510 delegates representing more than 4.5 million Party members attend the event which lasts till January 28.-VNA
