A congress was held at the Viethaus (Vietnam House) in Berlin on Oct. 22 to set up the Union of Vietnamese People in Germany .
Over 160 delegates from the Associations of Vietnamese People across Germany attended the event.
Nguyen Hong Cuong, deputy head of the congress organising board informed that about 125,000 Vietnamese people are living in Germany .
Delegates passed the union’s regulations and elected a 25-member executive committee, with Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thoai, a lecture of the Trier University , as its President.
In his welcome speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Do Hoa Binh said that the establishment of the union was significant to the Vietnamese community in Germany and expressed his hope that the union would help develop the community./.
