Hanoi (VNA) -- Professor Tran Xuan Bach, lecturer at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has just received the 2025 Global Healthcare Innovation Leadership Award.
The award was presented at the 16th Annual Conference of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) held from February 20-23 in Atlanta, the US.
The award honours scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the development and implementation of innovations that have a positive impact on public health, especially in low-income countries.
The association presented this award to Prof. Bach in recognition of his significant contributions to health innovation, including research on health economics, health systems, and digital health technologies to improve access to health care for vulnerable groups. He is also a pioneer in integrating cost-effective health models to optimise health systems, improve capacity to respond to global health challenges, and prevent pandemics in developing countries.
The award for Bach affirms the position of Vietnamese scientists in the international arena. Previously, Professor Bach was also awarded the 2023 Outstanding Research Award by ISPOR, the world's largest association for health economic evaluation.
Over the years, the CUGH Global Health Innovation Leadership Award has been consistently presented to outstanding professors from leading universities in the US, recognising their significant contributions to addressing global health challenges.
In 2024, the award honoured Professor Quentin Eichbaum, Chairman of the Council on Education of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and Director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Transfusion Medicine, and Professor Rajiv Chowdhury, Dean of the Department of Global Health under the University of Florida, for their 20 years of leadership and development of global health curricula at many of the world's leading medical schools.
Previously, in 2023, the award was presented to Professor Brittany Seymour, Vice Dean of Harvard Dental School, in recognition of her important contributions to global oral health and her years of advocacy for putting oral health on the global health agenda.
In 2022, Professor Karin B. Ulstrup from the Northwestern University of the US was awarded this prize for her innovations in women's health and behavioral medicine.
In 2021, Professor Carolyn Audet, Director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Clinical Excellence, was awarded for her pioneering research in implementation science in global health.
Honouring leading experts in the field not only affirms the importance of innovation in health care, but also promotes the development of sustainable solutions to improve the health of vulnerable communities around the world.
