Can Tho (VNA) – The steering committee for eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on March 19 began the construction of eight houses in O Mon district under a support programme.
Following a national campaign to do away with substandard homes, the city plans to build 371 new houses and repair 160 others by April 30, with total funding of 27 billion VND (1.05 million USD). So far, the construction and repair of 320 houses is underway.
Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep urged district and commune People's Committees to supervise the quality and progress of the work, while calling for additional financial and labour support to help families in the construction.
She asked construction units to ensure the construction progress and quality so that beneficiaries can move in as soon as possible and stablise their life.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment was asked to collaborate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees, agencies, and localities to mobilise social support for the needy./.
