Vietnamese runners carry global peace torch

Some 70 domestic and international runners as well as teachers and students of Ngo Sy Lien and Tran Phu Secondary Schools joined the “Peace Run – Vietnam 2014” in Hanoi on November 17.

The event is part of aglobal relay, Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, to enhanceinternational friendship and understanding.

It wasjointly organised by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation, itsHanoi chapter and the Hanoi Department of Education and Training(HDET).

At the opening ceremony, HDET Director NguyenHuu Do highlighted that peace is an universal human desire and afoundation for people’s happiness and prosperity.

Speaking highly of the event, he expressed his belief that passing thetorch of peace from nation to nation inspired the individualsparticipating in or watching the run as well as world leaders.

S. Wilson, a representative from the Peace Run said Vietnam isamongst the 13 destinations of the Asia-Pacific run that started inAugust, including Russia, the Republic of Korea, Japan,Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia .

During therun, the team of international runners carries a torch as a symbol offriendship through a number of countries and territories in a bid topromote cultural understanding and the harmonious relationship betweenthe peoples of all nations, faiths and cultures.

Founder Sri Chinmoy once said “World harmony, world peace: these are notmere dictionary words. These are realities, divine realities andsupreme realities”.-VNA

Visitors enjoy Thai environment, lifestyle at Hanoi festival

At the Thai Festival, from March 28 night to March 30 morning in Hanoi, visitors explored typical Thai dishes, along with health care and beauty care products and traditional handicrafts. They also enjoyed traditional dances from many regions of Thailand, tried making Khanom Krok coconut cakes and painting patterns on silk, among other activities.
