Vietnamese, Singaporean Foreign Ministers hold phone talks

Hanoi (VNA) –
Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on April 16 held phone talks with hisSingaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan,during which the two sides consented to closely coordinate, contributing toenhancing trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Vivian Balakrishnancongratulated Son on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam,and lauded the country’s performance in COVID-19 prevention and control, aswell as socio-economic development and diplomacy.

Singapore attaches greatimportance to the strategic partnership with Vietnam, he affirmed.

Son, for his part,spoke highly of cooperation efficiency between the two countries acrossspheres, emphasising that Singapore was Vietnam’s largest investor last yeardespite the pandemic.

He suggested the twosides continue with all-level delegation exchanges when possible, effectivelyimplement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, firstly the 15th Vietnam-Singapore Connectivity Ministerial Meeting and the 14th politicalconsultation at the deputy foreign ministerial level.

The minister used the occasionto thank Singapore for supporting Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, andnon-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for 2020-2021.

The two ministersagreed to step up cooperation within the framework of ASEAN and multilateralforums, for peace, stability and cooperation in the region.

They exchangedinvitations to visit their respective countries at a convenient time./.

Foreign policy contributes to propelling Vietnam into new era

2024 saw Vietnam significantly expanding its diplomatic activities with numerous partners and at various important multilateral forums and mechanisms. The country’s key leaders conducted a total of 60 external activities, including paying 21 visits to foreign countries and attend major multilateral conferences, as well as hosting 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam.
